What if social media gets banned tomorrow šŸ˜°

I woke up late like every other day, struggled to open my eyes and tried to get my phone, my mobile facial recognition failed to recognise my dark circles and bushy hair, I had to type in the PIN ugh. I opened Instagram as usual and it was blank. I thought itā€™s my half-opened eyes, I opened Whatsapp - blank! Now I got fully alert and opened Facebook which I rarely open these days and voila! Blank! All the social media channels got banned is what I read in the news once I got up and washed my face.

No, I donā€™t have an iphone

Now I am blank. What should I do now? Where will I get my daily dose of validation? Where will I find my entertainment? How will I kill time? Where will I watch 15sec make-up tutorials? Where will I find people spending 10hours a day to edit one post? Where will I find people spilling hate on each other for no joy? (probably itā€™s giving them joy!?) How do I spend my time now which I used to spend in endless scrolling up and down?

I heard mom calling me - ā€œ Chinnu, come see how big the money plant is now? What do you want for lunch? Look at you getting lean with every passing day, please eat something, shall I cut a mango for you?ā€ā€¦. And she was going on, and thatā€™s the first time I completely heard what she was saying with complete attention and said yes. Not like before where I half-heard things and completely ignored her most of the time.

Do you see where Iā€™m going? Iā€™m not gonna say social media curbed our lives, get in the present, live in the moment, nope! But just observe yourself, your emotions throughout the day, at work, with your family, with your friends, are you being the same person everywhere or are you trying to be someone elseā€™s idea of you?

Are you being mindful enough to see and feel your own emotions? Are you able to see the difference between opinions without arguing, put a hard stop to the negativity around, consume only whatā€™s meaningful? If you are able to do all these, and if you have control over yourself, youā€™re good mate! But if you fail to do even one of these, itā€™s time to get a little retrospective.

Social media is amazing when you put it to good use, you meet people you never thought you would, you see places, you learn things, you can unwind, you can let your thoughts out, it has so much potential. Try not to ignore your life in real spending it in virtual reality.

We still have all the social media functional, go try that dog filter, see if your crush checked your story or not, post a sexy picture on the beach, download that baking recipe, but remember to be mindful! Will ya?
